Why We Love This Stay

🍽️ The food scene Girona is home to El Celler de Can Roca, three-time winner of Best Restaurant in the World. Beyond the big name, the city is full of excellent mid-range restaurants, tapas bars, and cafes where eating well costs far less than it would in Barcelona.

🏛️ The old town The medieval old town is one of the best-preserved in Spain. Winding stone lanes, a 14th-century cathedral, Roman walls you can walk, a Jewish Quarter dating back to the 9th century, and colourful houses lining the Onyar River all within a short stroll of each other.

🎬 The Game of Thrones connection Girona served as a filming location for Game of Thrones, standing in for both King’s Landing and Braavos. The cathedral steps, the narrow streets of the old town, and the monastery all feature in the series, making it a brilliant backdrop even for non-fans.

🌊 The Costa Brava on the doorstep The coast is just 45 to 60 minutes away by car or bus. The Costa Brava’s dramatic coves, crystal-clear water, and charming fishing villages like Begur, Calella de Palafrugell, and Pals are all easy day trips from Girona.

🦁 The Dali connection Figueres, birthplace of Salvador Dali and home to the extraordinary Dali Theatre-Museum, is just 40 minutes north by train. It is one of the most visited museums in Spain and unlike anything else.

☀️ The August weather August in Girona means long warm evenings, temperatures around 27 to 30°C, and the perfect conditions for sitting outside with a glass of local wine. The city’s festival season is at its peak, with open-air events and markets throughout the month.

Things To Do

Old Town Food & History Walking Tour

Take a small-group guided walk through Girona’s Jewish Quarter and medieval old town with a local guide. The tour winds through hidden squares, along the ancient city walls, and includes a tasting of xuixo pastry and ratafia, two Girona specialities you will not find anywhere else. One of the most consistently praised tours in the city.

Costa Brava Sea Caves Kayaking and Snorkelling

Paddle out along the dramatic cliffs of the Costa Brava to explore sea caves, hidden coves, and clear Mediterranean water with a bilingual guide. Departing from Sant Feliu de Guixols, about 50 minutes from Girona, this two-hour guided kayak tour is one of the most popular coastal experiences on the Costa Brava.

Dali Theatre-Museum Skip-the-Line Entry, Figueres

Just 40 minutes north of Girona by train, the Dali Theatre-Museum in Figueres is the artist’s most ambitious creation and final resting place. Pre-book tickets to skip the queues, which in August can be significant. The admission ticket also includes the Dali Jewels exhibition next door.

All three experiences offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before.  Book early and secure your spot risk-free.
